Many nations are undergoing increasing cultural diversity, and learning to live together in a multicultural society is one of the major challenges of modern society. Religious rites, customs and art play an important role in the cultural life of societies and shape the lives of many people. Ignorance about religion can create prejudice, intolerance and bigotry.
My Religion contains six programs that are intended to educate school students about the family and community life of the followers of these World Religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá’í Faith. The titles in the series are: I’m a Hindu (filmed in UK), I’m a Buddhist (filmed in Canada), I’m a Jew (filmed in USA), I’m a Christian (filmed in Italy), and I’m a Bahá’í (filmed in Germany).
Each title introduces a child that belongs to a family that practices one of these faiths. The children have a common identity in that they all live in Western countries in order to stress the point that these societies are made up of people of diverse religions.
The programs feature modes of worship, houses of worship, holy writings, traditions and festivals.
The information is presented in a clear and uncluttered manner that young children find easy to understand. Important words are highlighted with captions.
